Forkable is a food blog written by Fia and Ian Marquis. We feature product reviews (foods, kitchen gadgets, and anything interesting we come across), reviews of local restaurants in Maine, recipes, opinions, and whatever else comes to mind – so long as it’s at least tangentially related to food.

Fia Marquis


Fia is a writer and singer, a collector of vintage Pyrex and uranium Depression glass, a stay-at-home mom, and a housewife. Her hobbies include good-naturedly commentating episodes of Food Network programs hosted by the likes of Rachel Ray, Ree Drummond and Sandra Lee, wrestling a toddler in and out of car seats, and trying to take naps. She has been known to buy trendy gadgets ironically, and then find herself enjoying their functionality with no sense of irony whatsoever. (For example, the unintentionally hilarious Shake Weight.)

Favorite Food: Lamb vindaloo, drunken noodle, broccoli cheddar soup, and tuna and avocado sushi. All of which I make at home, but they taste a little better when someone else does the hard work.
Favorite Drink: Unashamedly, Pepsi Max. With a toddler, the extra caffeine is necessary.
Guilty Pleasure: Frosty’s Donuts (located in Freeport, Brunswick and Gardiner, Maine.) They have this yeast-raised doughnut with a maple glaze and big chunks of thick, crispy bacon on top, and cinnamon rolls the size of your face.
Can’t survive in the kitchen without: Pyrex. We use Pyrex for food storage, food prep and for baking and serving. One day, I hope to have a set of vintage lime green and white Pyrex plates and bowls.

Ian Marquis

Ian Marquis, Forkable Ian is a graphic designer, musician, and writer who prefers to cook by flailing his arms around the kitchen and seeing what falls into the pot. He has a dozen cookbooks (and rarely uses any of them – but then again, he also buys books in general by the arm-load and then proceeds to forget he owns them). He is an avid reader of Cooks Illustrated. Ian frequently has to be restrained, lest he use the cats as ingredients for dinner. He is a sucker for a nicely designed package, and will try anything once if it sounds interesting.

Favorite Junk Food: Pizza of any kind (and for any meal)
Favorite Nice Food: Sushi and Sashimi (particularly white tuna)
Favorite Alcoholic Drink: Whiskey Sour or Gin and Tonic
Favorite “Soft” Drink: Salted Mocha Coffee or Raspberry Lemonade
Guilty Pleasure: Taco Bell (particularly the five-layer burrito)
Can’t survive in the kitchen without: Cheese and Garlic (as Fia can attest)
Wishes more people enjoyed: Ballantine Ale (it was my grandfather’s favorite beer)
