Mom’s Matzoh Brittle

I wish I could say I got around to trying this before my mom did. It’s been on my to-do list (along with a few other matzoh recipes, to use up the boxes Ian bought last year) for weeks. But Mom beat me to it, and she actually went out an bought matzoh just to make it with! And because it was one of the tasty treats on offer at Easter dinner this past Sunday, I decided to share the recipe she used here along with some more traditionally “Mom” recipes. It’s tasty, crunchy and a great way to use up leftover matzoh.

Matzoh Brittle

  • 5 sheets of matzoh bread
  • 1 c. dark brown sugar
  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 1 c. chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350°F. Lay matzoh in a cookie sheet. In a saucepan, melt sugar and butter. Bring to a boil for one minute, then pour over matzoh. Bake 5-10 minutes and remove from oven. Spread chocolate chips over the caramel and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
