Irish Soda Bread

My little twist on Irish Soda Bread involves spices. I can’t help it. It’s like me and cookies — I always have to add cinnamon, nutmeg… I’m going to give you the traditional recipe, but if you want yours to taste just like mine, add a teaspoon each of nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger.

Irish Soda Bread

  • 4 c flour
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/3 c milk
  • 1/3 vinegar
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c golden raisins
  • 1/2 c dried currants

Preheat oven to 375°F. Mix milk and vinegar separately. Cream together butter and sugar, add egg and milk mixture. Separately, mix flour, baking soda and salt. Mix together wet and dry ingredients, place in a 9 in round cake pan, and bake 35-45 minutes.
